Athlete summary
Energy availability (EA) is the energy left for your body after training:
EA = (intake − exercise energy) / fat-free mass (kcal/kg FFM/day)
| EA band | Meaning |
|---|---|
| ≥ 45 | Optimal |
| 30–45 | Reduced — monitor fueling and recovery |
| < 30 (♀) / < 25 (♂) | Low EA (LEA exposure) |
Those numeric bands follow Loucks and are unchanged. What the 2023 IOC REDs consensus added is framing: not every bout of low EA is the same.
| LEA exposure | What it means in Koyaro |
|---|---|
| Adaptable | Short-term / mild LEA without secondary disruption signals — usually reversible when you restore fueling. Still treat today's low EA seriously (fuel + ease training). |
| Problematic | Prolonged LEA, and/or LEA with secondary screening signals (body-comp trend, under-fueling, sleep/mood proxies) |
This is engine screening, not a diagnosis. Koyaro does not run the clinical IOC REDs CAT2 tool and does not replace a sports physician or dietitian.
What the engine looks at
Signals we already collect (CAT2-inspired secondary screening — not clinical labs):
- Point EA and multi-day low-EA streaks
- Body-composition trends (lean-mass decline, body-fat rise)
- Acute under-fueling (missed pre-session carbohydrate on a hard day)
- Wellness proxies (sleep disturbance, low mood)
flagged on the assessment means problematic LEA screening. Adaptable LEA is surfaced as lea_exposure: adaptable without the composite protect-style flag.
Prescription impact (Coach Loop / Today)
Health guardrails map exposure into DecisionEnvelope ops — not display-only:
| LEA exposure | Guardrail | Calendar effect |
|---|---|---|
| adaptable | caution / reduce | Reshape hard sessions (downgrade role); Today recommendation eases intensity |
| problematic | protect / rest | Remove hard sessions → rest; apply requires acknowledgment |
Engine module: coach.domain.readiness.guardrails.health_guardrails → propose_guardrail_operations → Coach Loop decide_coach_loop. LLM layers narrate the frozen envelope only — they never invent EA, TSS, or risk scores.
